One month in to becoming a Specialist Sports College, Mary Rose School takes part in its first Youth Sports Trust initiative – The Young Ambassadors Programme.
Special Needs Sports Colleges and School Sport Partnerships have all nominated Young Ambassadors for the programme. Here at Mary Rose School we have nominated Jade Smith and Bradley Ryder to take part in the programme and undertake their training.
Hundreds of Young Ambassadors from across England have been chosen to promote sport, physical education and healthy living to build on the excitement of the London 2012 Games.
The role of the Young Ambassador falls under six broad headings!
- Increasing participation and promoting healthy active lifestyles for other young people
- Supporting talented young sports people
- Learning inspired by the Olympic and Paralympic Games and London 2012 across subjects in School
- Raising awareness of the Young Ambassador Programme, London 2012 and the Olympic and Paralympic Games
- Leading and empowering other young people
- Having an impact beyond your School Sport Partnership
Joining Christine and Natasha were other Olympic and Paralympic athletes including Duncan Goodhew, Clare Strange, Georgina Harland and Miriam Batten and 400 Young Ambassadors from the region.
Each year until 2012, School Sport Partnerships across England will recruit two young people to take on the role of Young Ambassador for two years. They work in their local communities championing sport and the ethos and values of the Olympic and Paralympic movement and in their second year they take on a mentoring role with the new Young Ambassadors.
