In April 2009 “One World, One Vision” was the title of the Mary Rose Global Rock Challenge performance.
To prepare for the event, all 6th form and key stage 4 students worked with the Corali dance company to develop dance and movement skills during two workshops within school.
During the Spring term Thursday afternoons soon developed into art and craft sessions, dance practise, costume design and jewellery making.
Students practised dance moves from different cultures, explored the Internet to look at costumes and listened to music from both Africa and the western world.
The Western group of dancers enjoyed decorating their costumes with painted handprints on their “hoodies” and the African dancers made a great collection of “pots” and “sticks” to use during their dance.
Weeks of practise were enjoyed by both staff and students to finally showcase their work at Portsmouth Guildhall.
At the end of a very moving performance the audience gave the students a standing ovation and the judges presented us with three awards.
