Progress Report on the new building and our plans for moving (highlights from the October Newsletter)

On Monday October 16th the governors went on a tour of the new school building after which there was a full governing body meeting to discuss the move to the new building. The decision was made to start the Spring Term on Tuesday 3rd January 2007 on the 2 current sites and finish for half term 1 week early on Friday 9th February. The school will open after half term on Monday 26th February in the new building. This will give us time to make sure that all the furniture and fittings are in place and that our pupils are properly prepared for the transition.

Managing the move with our children
Much time and thought has already gone into this and preparation started many months ago.
We are preparing our pupils for the move in the following ways:

Each pupil has a transition plan which is already under development and will include:

  • Photographs of their class
  • Photographs of their staff
  • Photographs of the school
  • A communication plan which will enable staff and families to prepare pupils for change
  • A timetable that will outline what will happen and when
  • A timetable for the first day
  • A visit to see their classroom
  • Opportunities to meet their classmates
  • The ongoing cross site projects

Managing the move with Parents and Carers
We have thought carefully about the changes that face you as parents which is why we have organised parents evenings and coffee mornings already this term so that you can get to know us. In addition we will:

  • Arrange meetings for you to come along and meet your child’s class staff
  • Arrange a visit to the new school once it is nearer completion
  • Ensure that you have regular sight of your child’s transition plan so that you can use it at home
Art project
This involves all our pupils. David Halliwell, a professional artist is working with us to create some big pieces of artwork to display in our new school. The project starts after half term and is designed to be completed after we move in.

Visits to the new building
Numbers of classes have now visited the new school. They have been taken into the building into areas that are almost complete and have been out onto the playground as well. They have come back very excited and enthusiastic. See the photographs on the website
