It was a major organisational exercise but somehow we managed to move our whole school down the road to St James’s Hospital cricket pitch for what turned out to be a fantastic Sports Day. The week before it rained every and we had nearly given up hope – but then lo and behold, the sun came out on the Monday and by Tuesday the ground was dry and we were all set.
At 7.00 am staff and volunteers from the Royal Marines pitched 16 gazebos, set up hygiene areas, marked out the activities and organised the catering. At 9.30 am the whole school ‘marched’ down Locksway Road ready for the 10.00am start.
The whole school was divided into 4 houses, each house including pupils from the age of 2-19yrs. Circuits of activities were set up, designed to meet the needs of the full age and ability range and every single pupil participated fully.
Our loyal catering team brought our lunch down to us – they even managed to bring nicely warmed pureed food and fishfingers for the few who just won’t eat anything else. They gave freely of their time and really helped make the day.
In the afternoon we had the running races and the relays – and of course the parent and staff races. All good fun on what was by now quite a warm sunny day!
The winning house this year was Yellow House and special awards went to:
