Oily Cart create theatre for young people with complex disabilities, using mutli-sensory techniques such as water and bubbles, paper fans, perfume sprays and ultra violet lighting. They claim to give every young person a unique experience and we can vouch fro that…..
When Oily Cart came to Mary Rose the moved into the school hall and prepared a set that was a train station waiting room. All the cast had a suitcase or trunk with them. All the pupils took a 'blues box or bag' with them that they made in the preparatory week before the performance. The boxes contained a few of their favourite items.
The whole show was based around what was the contents of everyone’s bag or box ie what would you never leave home without!
Each cast members had one item in their case, these were: a large paper fan, an electric guitar, shakers, water, lights and a camcorder! Each time an article was shown there was an opportunity for everyone to have a turn and at the same time there was a song to go with the item - all sung and accompanied by music in deep South American 'blues' style.
The atmosphere created was amazing and the enjoyment levels shown on the faces of the pupils was beyond words/description!
The cast were superb working with all pupils in turn, really making an effort to get to know them and what they liked in such a short space of time - whilst all the time singing and interacting! We will definitely invite them back soon …..
