GREAT NEWS! We have been successful in our application to become a Specialist Sports College! Fantastic!
Below is an excerpt from the Press Release:
“Portsmouth’s newest school Mary Rose School has been successful in its application to become a Specialist Sports College. The status means that excellence in PE and Sport at the school will now be developed further and used to improve standards in all subjects especially English and Maths.
Headteacher Alison Beane: “We are absolutely delighted to have achieved Specialist Sport Status and so excited about what this means to all the pupils.
“The PE and sporting excellence this status will bring will benefit the well-being and fitness of all the pupils and it will also help to improve the performance of the whole school.”
A further space will be developed at the school that will focus on sensory integration, movement and dance especially for pupils with more complex needs.
Councillor Eleanor Scott who is executive member for Education, Children and Young People at the city council said: “Well done to all at the Mary Rose School for securing this status as a Specialist Sports College.
“In less than one year this school has established itself as providing a first class education for its pupils and this award will allow this success to develop further.
This news is really great for our school. In the next few months we will be preparing for September when we officially become a Sports College. We look forward to enjoying and making the most of all the benefits that this brings for our pupils, our school and our local community.
