Corali is a professional performance group made up of adults with learning disabilities. “Corali is about giving skills to people with learning difficulties so that they can be creative, work with other people and understand more about dance and performance.”
We spent a fantastic day with them on Monday October 6th. Six people from Corali ran a series of workshops for our 14-19 year old students to help them to develop ideas and learn new skills ready for our Rock Challenge performance next April 2009.
Everyone joined in the day and we were encouraged to use our imagination and work together as a team. We especially enjoyed trying out new and inclusive ways of dancing with people who use wheelchairs. We used simple objects, words and pictures to stimulate ideas and movement.
At the end of the day Corali held a workshop for staff where we tried out new ideas. It was good fun and very helpful. The next step is for our staff and pupil team to get together to plan our performance and to choose the music to accompany it. We will invite Corali back for a follow up session in February.
