Red Nose Day 2009 at Mary Rose School

Friday, March 13th 2009

As you well know the theme for Red nose day 200 was “something funny for money” and didn’t we go for it at Mary Rose School. The school was a sea of red and some staff and pupils even wore their pyjamas to school! There were clowns, super heroes and lots of wigs. Even our new caretaker Lee dressed up as a fairy and was given the job of judging the silliest dressed student in every class, these children then received a certificate in assembly later that afternoon.

The bring and buy sale went down a storm which was run by the 6th form and Spinnaker class and there was a fantastic raffle with a LOT of prizes. The guess the name of the dog was won by Lean-Marie.

There were also refreshments in the hall with complimentary red nose cakes made by students during the week, again this was run by the 6th form who did a great job.

To top it all off our very noble speech and language therapist Dennis agreed that he would have his legs waxed during assembly for at least £75 worth of sponsorship. Of course we managed to raise this and staff were also asked to pledge money to be the person to WAX Dennis. Angie, Kelly & Debbie won and did a very entertaining job of waxing poor Dennis in front of the whole school in assembly. What a fantastic sport he was!

The whole school had a brilliant day and managed to raise a whopping £577.30 for Comic Relief.
