OPENING UP COLLECTIONS A joint project with The Mary Rose Trust

Thursday, July 27th 2006

You may remember from a previous article that The Mary Rose Trust has obtained a grant to help them to make their collection more accessible to people with learning disabilities. This is a great opportunity for staff from Mary Rose School to work with staff at the Trust to develop some original and innovative ideas.

Work began on July 12th when a group of staff from Mary Rose school, members of the Mary Rose Trust and representatives from Dynavox and Possum Controls got together to draw up an initial plan. Ideas flowed and following a tour of the ship and the museum we all sat down and did our homework – as you can see from the photograph.

We are looking at ways we can make a difference to current displays and educational programmes and also ways that we can use technology to improve independent access to the interactive features in the museum.

Staff really enjoyed the day and we look forward to taking the plans forward in the autumn term when pupils will also become actively involved in the project.
