Alison Beane
Headteacher
I feel proud and privileged to have been appointed as the new headteacher of Mary Rose School and I am enjoying my new life in Portsmouth and my home on the Isle of Wight. We have what I call an ‘old wooden boat’ moored locally, (my husband insists it is a classic yacht), in any case it is another good reason to enjoy our new life by the sea. Travelling by Hovercraft every day is also fun and very different from the old days when I spent a lot of time sitting on the M25!
I am really enjoying life at Mary Rose School and I am very proud of the fantastic way that staff, pupils, parents and carers approached the move to our new school. The transition has gone really well and the happy, smiling faces of our pupils are all we need as a reward for all the hard work.
The main highlight since our move has been the official opening when Ade Adepitan came along to celebrate with us and to cut the ribbon. We had a fantastic day enjoyed by everyone involved I’m sure and we especially enjoyed our time with Ade which included the basket ball session, his visits to classes and his speech for our guests.
Looking to the future we are now concentrating on ensuring that we have the highest standards of education possible in our school, the new building is only part of it. We are working hard on our application for Specialist Sports status which, assuming we are successful, will bring even more benefits for our school. Exciting times!
