Sue Newbiggin
Teaching Assistant
I work in the P.E dept, mainly in the swimming pool, as swimming instructor. I work with all the PMLD/SLD students and all age groups. I try to give the students as much freedom in the pool as possible and have achieved this by using and adapting various flotation aids, giving students the independence to move around the pool freely. Most of the students are working on STA swimming awards; these have also been adapted to suit the students levels. I like to make the sessions safe, fun and enjoyable for both students and staff. All the students enjoy swimming and look forward to these sessions. We are very lucky as we have great equipment to use in and around the pool, various coloured lighting systems which student access by using switches. A sound system which is always on (loudly)
I lead an afterschool PE session where students can try different sports. this includes netball, athletics, games. We have had bocca, cricket and football coaches from outside agencies come in to support us with some of these sessions.
I assist with another afterschool cub which is trampoling. We have a group of students of different abilities/levels these students are also working on award schemes.
