The new Mary Rose School staff team came together for the third time, in the impressive surroundings of The Historic Dockyard. When the name for our school was chosen we had no idea the extent to which partnerships with The Mary Rose Trust would develop and just how quickly. It was a fantastic day and thoroughly enjoyed by us all.
The morning was spent in the Naval Museum when staff shared information about their new classes and developed the first stage of their pupil profiles ready for when the move takes place. Then each staff team planned a project to teach in September. There was a positive feel to the morning, with much humour and enthusiasm as you can see from the photographs.
After lunch The Mary Rose Trust staff headed by Mary Kinoulty, took us on a tour of the Mary Rose Ship. It was amazing to realise how many staff had never been before. We then transferred to The Mary Rose Museum where we were met by The Chief Executive, John Lippiett who gave us a warm welcome. Staff were then divided into keystage groups and took part in a series of workshops all aimed at developing a strong team – and of course to have fun. The gun drill was very popular, although in real life several of the teams would have blown themselves up! We also had an ‘identify the artefact’s quiz, dressing up in Tudor costume and a tour of the museum to see the highlights.
There was a wholly positive feel to the day and the enthusiasm and good humour was something quite special. I truly believe that anyone visiting us for the first time would have assumed that the staff had worked together for years. What a wonderful beginning for Mary Rose School.
