Rock Challenge 2009

Students from Key Stage 4 and 6th Form have been busy this term preparing for Rock Challenge. They have been choosing the theme, designing costumes, making jewellery, creating displays and decorating “hoodies”
Ian and Guy went with Lin to get the soundtrack recorded, the scenery is nearly ready, our Tshirts for the day have arrived and we love them!
Great fun has been had by all. especially the weekly practices in the hall which are getting better and better.

Faith and Football 2009 (6th Form)

A group of students in the 6TH form have been very busy this term running a business enterprise to raise money for the Faith and Football charity.
They have appointed students to different roles in the business and they have carried out their duties including, Managing Director, Finance Officer and Marketing Manager.

Friends of Mary Rose Barn Dance

On Friday 27th March we held our second annual Barn Dance at the Irish Club on Elm Grove. One hundred and forty people came along to join in with the fun and they helped to raise over £800 for our sensory garden. The Blarney Band and their caller were again superb and soon had us reeling, wheeling, dosey doeing and spinning! On the 9th March a group of 14 students and 8 staff made the long journey to the Isle of Wight for the annual Little Canada residential. We had great weather for the whole week and took part in a range of activities including Abseiling, Archery, Fencing, Quad Bikes, Climbing, Swimming and Aeroball. Red Nose Day 2009 at Mary Rose School

As you well know the theme for Red nose day 200 was “something funny for money” and didn’t we go for it at Mary Rose School. The school was a sea of red and some staff and pupils even wore their pyjamas to school! There were clowns, super heroes and lots of wigs. Even our new caretaker Lee dressed up as a fairy and was given the job of judging the silliest dressed student in every class, these children then received a certificate in assembly later that afternoon.

Macbeth (Victory)

Victory had great fun last week in humanities. We have been studying
Scotland and looked at the story of Macbeth. We made witches masks and
kings hats to re-enact the story. Then we smelled 15 different herbs and
spices and made our very own magic witches spell! Once it was thoroughly
mixed, the witches circled Macbeth chanting the spell to make him kill the
King! Everybody had a wonderful time, pity it took several days to get rid

Around the World in 80 days (Discovery)

In Discovery class we have been travelling around the world in eighty days. The latest place we have visited is America. We listened to lots of different music about America and dressed up as the Statue of Liberty. We had to try and pose the same way as the statue which was a bit tricky, especially when our friends put the crown on us upside down. Special Olympics

A team of ten pupils, well supported by parents and staff, took part in this years Special Olympics at the Mountbatten Center in Portsmouth.

On Thursday we went to the University of Southampton Sports Ground. First we did lots of different training games to help us learn some football skills.
We enjoyed splitting up into teams and trying to knock the balls off the cones before the other teams did.
We stopped for lunch which we ate inside as it was so cold.
After lunch we had four games of 5-a-side football and took it in turns to be in goal. We all scored a goal.

The first football match of the season was a resounding success for the Mary Rose School football team. Our intrepid footballers played against Cedars School on September 18th and won the game by 12 goals to 2.

Juma provided us all with an exciting and lively presentation which introduced our pupils/students to the spirit and joy of steel drums.
